In this self portrait you see the artist in great distress attempting to escape a gathering storm in the barren desert in the background. A beautiful woman sitting in a tree is grabbing his hair and refuses to let go. Her long red hair swirls throughout the composition, but has not entwined him yet. Why is she doing this? What are her motives? The story of Azazel from the Book of Enoch came to mind, "when the world was changed. There was a great lack of reverence for God… and all their ways became corrupt.”
I am doing my best to interpret the age and society I live in through art. I have included titles and descriptions, but how you interpret what you see may very well be different from mine.
