This oil painting depicts a meticulously rendered door with rich architectural details. Something is casting a shadow of a large “X” on the door, and if you look closely there is also a small X carved into the doorpost. The windows have been coated over with the same substance that is running out from under the door. To the right of the door in a window is the form of a woman, painted in a much looser style than the rest of the painting. Her attitude and pose are certainly a temptation for the masses. But in an empire in decline it is doubtful few will take the time to see and understand.
I am doing my best to interpret the age and society I live in through art. I have included titles and descriptions, but how you interpret what you see may very well be different from mine.
